Looking for Pennsylvania maple syrup? Check out the western Pennsylvania maple producers web site at www.pamaple.org. Some of these places are tucked away in the woods while others are very easy to locate. Hurry Hill Farm in Edenbourg also has a maple museum. For future reference - the 11th March Maple Madness Driving Tour of Ohio maple producers is March 12 & 13, 19 & 20, 2011. Complete information will be available February 1, 2011, at www.ohiomapleproducers.org. The 82nd Geauga County Maple Festival is April 28,29,30, and May 1, 20111, www.maplefestival.com.
Hope this helps.

I just found this series of articles on making maple syrup on Itty Bitty Impact: http://www.ittybittyimpact.com/2010/04/making-maple-syrup-tapping/. It's a multi-part series and covers the whole process in-depth. Great reading before you hit a festival. Or two.

Thanks, Terese! We'd love more information on Ohio events. Please send our info to your PR folks and have them add us to their release lists. Also, tell any of the event organizers to add a comment here about their event!

Ohio is a major maple syrup producing state. The Ohio Maple Producers sponsor the March Maple Madness Driving Tour the second and third weekend of March. In 2010, there were 27 stops in ten Ohio counties. it is a free tour and a great opportunity for people to see how maple syrup is made.

The oldest and among the largest maple festivals in the United States is the GEauga County Maple Festival. It was founded in 1926 as a way to promote maple syrup. It is held the last weekend in April and has food, rides, entertainmnet, two huge parades and the best maple syrup to be found anywhere. For complete festival details go to www.maplefestival.com.

I hope you will add more Ohio maple information in the future. Please let me know if you need more information.

In Vermont, we just love the Shelburne Farms Pancake Breakfast and Maple Open House weekend held the last weekend in March.

Start your morning with blueberry, chocolate chip or plain pancakes and sausage. All served with Shelburne Farms own Maple Syrup of course. Tasty and delicious! Small children will also find some maple themed coloring activities to keep them entertained.

After breakfast, hike up the hill behind the farm barn. There you will find, set back in the woods, a steaming sugar-house. Inside learn how the sap turns into syrup. Outside you can sample sugar-on-snow -- hot maple syrup drizzled on snow with the traditional side of pickles! Then continue on a scavenger hunt on the wooded trails to find "tree cookies" which kids turn in back down at the farm barn for maple candies. Should you get cold while you are hunting, there is an outdoor campfire burning to warm up your hands. This is a great way to spend the morning sampling Vermont's tasty treats and getting a little exercise too!

New Hampshire celebrates NH Maple Weekend this year on March 27-28th. More than 65 sugar houses across the state open their doors to visitors offering tours of the maple orchards and sugar houses. Visitors can observe, participate and/or taste the results – such as sugar-on-snow (warm syrup poured over fresh snow makes a taffy-like candy), or a pancake breakfast. And for those who can’t get enough of a good thing, many sugarhouses offer maple candy, syrup and other maple delights year-round through their websites.

NH’s maple producers take great pride in the centuries old annual ritual of tapping the maple trees that provide the annual fall foliage show, including collecting and hauling the sap to their sugarhouses – some using traditional buckets and horse or oxen-drawn sledges, some with high-tech plastic tubing connecting the trees – then boiling the sap down to syrup. It takes approximately 40 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup. The New Hampshire maple industry produces close to 90,000 gallons of maple syrup each season. Check out a map and the location by county of all the sugar houses in the state at www.nhmapleproducers.com. The NH Maple Producers also have a Maple Hotline, 603-225-3757. For a complete list of maple sugar offers on the VisitNH.gov website, click here.
