Road Trip: Chicago Auto Show or Bust

2012 Buick Regal with eAssist

With the 2012 Chicago Auto Show around the corner (as in THIS week), Road Trips for Families is excited to attend the big event on Thursday, February 9. Dubbed as “Social Media Preview Day,” Thursday is a special day for those of us interested in getting from Point A to Point B and telling you all about it. The largest auto show in North America, this year’s Chicago Auto Show will continue a century long tradition of showcasing the latest and greatest in the automotive industry.

Putting the rubber to the road, you may remember we participated in two cross-country test drives, one in 2010 (Chevrolet Traverse) and last summer’s 2011 adventure (Buick Enclave). Concerned about safety, comfort, and appearance (anyone who has been in the school pick up/drop off line knows what I’m talking about), fuel efficiency is also huge when you have a wanderlust type personality. Deducting over 6,500 travel-related miles in 2011, we jumped at the chance to test the the 2012 Buick Regal Hybrid with eAssist before and during the auto show.

Having never driven a hybrid, but familiar with the LaCrosse (we own and love our 2005 Buick LaCrosse), this video explains eAssist technology in a way we all can understand. Rated at 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, the Buick Regal Hybrid has the potential to put a dent in family vacation budgets. Stay tuned for a post-show review and if you haven’t downloaded the Chevy Game Time Super Bowl app before tomorrow’s game, what are you waiting for!?!
