If you’re thinking of your winter holiday now, then Lapland’s a winner for families who want a white Christmas. Fly to the Finnish spot where snow’s pretty much guaranteed, and your kids can see Santa, get involved with activities run by the elves, and even have a ride on a sleigh pulled by a reindeer. There are loads for grown-ups too, from skiing, snowmobiling, and hiking, plus you might be able to spot the Northern Lights.

You can take your pick from laid-back, quiet resorts like Cala Bona, or Alcúdia, which has one of Majorca’s longest beaches and a historic old town nearby.
